Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) is seeking a capable and detail-oriented Junior Tax Accountant to support the tax compliance requirements of MRDC and the entities it manages across the mining, gas, petroleum and non-resource sectors. Reporting to the Manager Payroll, this role will help ensure accurate, timely and compliant tax reporting and payments.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Assist with preparing and lodging company income tax returns.
- Review and lodge monthly GST, Business Income Withholding Tax and Foreign Contractor Withholding Tax obligations.
- Assist with provisional tax calculations and quarterly advance payment tax estimates.
- Prepare tax reconciliations, tax-effect calculations and supporting schedules.
- Monitor tax payments, returns, remittances and submissions to the Internal Revenue Commission and PNG Customs.
- Prepare and obtain tax clearance certificates where required.
- Respond to correspondence and notices from regulators, external tax advisers and auditors.
- Research tax matters and support the effective use of available tax credits.
- Maintain accurate electronic and hard-copy tax records.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, tax agents and regulatory authorities.
What You’ll Bring:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
- Sound knowledge of Papua New Guinea tax laws and a practical understanding of tax compliance requirements.
- Relevant experience in a similar role, preferably within the mining or petroleum sector or a chartered accounting firm.
- Experience analysing and reconciling large volumes of financial data.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Strong numeracy, communication and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and escalate issues appropriately.
- High integrity, discretion and commitment to confidentiality.
- A collaborative, self-motivated and results-focused approach.
